Growth Engineer challenge

The growth engineer position requires mad coding skills and a growth hacking mindset.

For this test, we're trying to gauge a few of your key skills:
• Ability to understand funnels, cohort charts, experiments and growth metrics
• Critical thinking skills

We're not looking for any specific 'right' answer, so feel free to think outside the box and make use of your creativity.

Before answering the questions, spend a few minutes playing around with the mobile app 'Invoice Simple' (either on Android or iOS).

Out of respect for your time, we ask that you spend no more than 2 hours on this task. Once complete, please send your work to careers@invoicesimple.com written in a Google doc. If this is your first time emailing us then include your resume and the role you're applying for.

Questions

1- This is our mobile onboarding funnel.

The 'Onboarding start' event is triggered the first time users open our app. They then go through a series of onboarding steps, one of which is adding their business logo. Adding a logo is an optional step. Finally users trigger the 'Finished first invoice' event when they complete onboarding and finish their first invoice.

• What test would you recommend running to improve our onboarding funnel? Where would you focus?

• Can you say that if we force everyone to add a logo we'd get more people finishing their first invoice? Explain your answer.

2- This is our weekly retention chart.

• Jan 1st, week 2 has a pretty poor retention rate. Why do you think that is?

• Week of Dec 18, week 1 has a lower than normal retention rate, why do you think that is?

• The last row, Nov 20th, week 1 has great retention numbers. Why do you think that is?

• What would you say our week to week retention rate is?

3- You've implemented a new onboarding flow, with the hopes of increasing number of people creating a first invoice.

• How would you go about measuring the impact of your changes? Give specific details about your approach.

• Assuming that we've got 100 new users installing the app every day, how long would it take for your findings to be reliable? Explain your thinking and assumptions.
